It’s been a ROLLERCOASTER. Wall Street cheered the US midterms on Wednesday, then dumped AI STOCKS on Thursday. That looks like a post-election RESHUFFLE, not a crisis. The Fed is on HOLD, a December hike is around 85% PRICED, so there’s little left to surprise us. The good news is OIL. Brent has SLID from about USD118 in late October to around USD99, as Iran-Qatar talks raised HOPES of ending the war. Russia-Ukraine talks are also PROGRESSING, with a CEASEFIRE in Oleshky and new peace talks planned for November, and a trilateral round likely around 10 NOVEMBER. Cheaper oil is a GIFT to the rand, which firmed to 16.52, a two-week HIGH. Locally, the municipal vote is about 58% COUNTED. Coalition haggling will be LOUD, but that’s politics, not a market event. Every noisy patch before this one PASSED, and this one will too. Stay CALM and keep your long-term plan.

INTEREST: This week, rats drive, a man walks the world in an unbroken line, fountain pens survive the digital age, and Bob Dylan meets the Pope. Meanwhile, the Pacific garbage patch is changing colour. Sometimes strange stories make us stop, look again and think DIFFERENTLY.
