The Fed pressed HOLD, then left the December hike door wide open, with markets pricing roughly an 84% chance. Higher-for-longer dollar yields plus Brent parked above USD110 is a nasty cocktail for emerging markets, and the ZAR slipped to 16.64. Gold and platinum gave upground too, pulling the usual cushion out from under MZANSI’s miners. Local desks flag ZAR 17.00 as the next line in the sand if oil and the Fed keep squeezing. Add next week’s municipal elections and the noise is LOUD. Noise is not a strategy. Hold your NERVE.
