The big number was a COOL one. US June CPI actually FELL 0.4% on the month, its sharpest drop since 2020, DRAGGING headline inflation to 3.5% and taking the heat off the Fed before its 28 July sit-down. Chair Warsh still talked HAWKISH. Locally the MOOD was gloomier: MZANSI’s mining output SHRANK 5.4% in May, AU slid back toward USD4,000 and dragged the JSE’s diggers with it, and the ZAR drifted near a two-week low around 16.32. Oil crept back to USD84 as Hormuz flared again. One soft print is NOT a trend. Don’t make a single data point your ENEMY. SIT still.

INTEREST: There were sharks SWIMMING in Earth’s oceans while dinosaurs walked the land, POSSIBLY looking up at a completely ringless, blank SATURN (the rings developed later). They were practically PRIMORDIAL.
